Baked Quinces
A rare treat for some and an undiscovered treasure for others, the quinces are among my fav fruit. Not easy to find in the US, they are however, starting to appear at the stores.
Whole Foods sells them for $1.99 + tax per piece and while at first I was under the impression that they are expensive, I later realized that they are quite reasonable.
I bought 6 and ate 2 the first night I brought them home !
And boy was I happy to have finally found quinces around here !
Anyway, today I decided to bake one, quartered, with some brown sugar and honey drizzled on top and with a splash of Mountain Dew at the base.
At 450 F for 25 to 40 minutes until they are golden brown on the outside and feel slightly soft inside when pierced with a fork.
I served mine with 2 dollops of orange sherbet and they were pure Heaven !
I washed them, cut them in half....
then cored them and cut each half in 2 and place them in a small pyrex dish....
topped them with 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar and honey and added some Mountain Dew at the base of the dish...
and baked them at 450 F for 25 to 40 minutes, depending on how fast or slow your oven bakes.
I placed them on a serving plate, added some orange sherbet and drizzled the syrup formed on the bottom.

In hungarian we say "szilvás gombóc"... "plum dumpling" in english. I hope you will find some english recipe too.
Deborah - thank you !
Looks delicious! Thank you for the recipe.
