Oatmeal with Caramelized Apples

This recipe has been created with the concept of tarte tatin in mind - those delicious caramelized fruits topped with either batter, puff pastry or a light pie crust and then baked.
My absolute favorite has to be the banana tarte tatin made with puff pastry.
I like Ina's caramel sauce recipe and for those of you who want it, here it is :

You can choose from a great variety of instant cooking oatmeal brands and flavors.

Even whole grain...

Or my absolute favorite:

Ingredients:
1 Granny Smith apple or another kind of very firm and slightly tart apple
1/2 cup sugar or brown sugar or raw sugar
1 teaspoon water
2 TBSP half & half or heavy cream or even milk
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 packet oatmeal or 1/3 cup quick cooking oatmeal
2/3 cup milk

Directions:
Wash, core and cut the apple in 6 slices and set aside.
Warm up a cast iron skillet on medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes , place the sugar in it, followed by the water and just let it dissolve...do not stir.
When it turns from transparent to light golden caramel color, add the milk and watch your skillet as it will bubble.
You might even have to remove it slightly from the heat.
This is the moment when you need to add the apples

and you need to cook them for 2 to 4 minutes on each side or until they soften.

While the apples are cooking away, cook the oatmeal in a microwave or on your stove.
If choosing the microwave, combine the 2/3 cup milk with the oatmeal and cook for 1 and 1/2 minutes.
Remove and stir.
Top with caramel apples, sprinkle cinnamon and enjoy !
